The Challenges
-
Legacy Consolidation: Moving complex, decades-old data and processes from PeopleSoft and EBS to Oracle Cloud without disrupting global operations.
-
Scale & Cost: Existing manual testing and open-source tools (like Selenium) could not scale effectively or remain cost-efficient across the enterprise.
-
Quarterly Update Pressure: The shift to Oracle Cloud introduced mandatory quarterly updates, requiring a faster, more resilient testing cadence.
-
Cross-Platform Needs: The solution needed to be codeless and capable of testing business processes that extended beyond the Oracle ecosystem.

Summary
McDonald’s, the world’s leading quick-serve restaurant chain with 40,000 locations, faced the massive challenge of consolidating legacy EBS and PeopleSoft systems into a unified Oracle ERP and HCM Cloud environment. To manage this shift, they transitioned from manual and open-source testing to a codeless, AI-driven automation framework.

The Solution:
The Tricentis Ecosystem
By implementing an advanced automation suite, the organization modernized its QA department:
Tricentis Tosca (Vision AI & DEX): 1,500 automated test cases were built using a codeless approach. Vision AI was utilized to scan Oracle release notes and UI changes, while Distributed Execution (DEX) allowed for massive parallel testing to save time.
Tricentis NeoLoad: 40 dedicated performance test cases were implemented to ensure the new Cloud infrastructure could handle peak global demand.
Impact Analysis: Shifted from "testing everything" to high-impact, risk-based testing to meet the demands of Oracle’s quarterly release cycle.

The Outcomes
-
Dramatic Efficiency Gains: The testing cycle was reduced from 12 days to just 3 days within ten months, with a clear roadmap to reach a 2-day execution window.
-
From Execution to Advisory: The time saved allowed the QA team to stop being a bottleneck and start proactively advising the business on how to deliver new functionality faster.
-
AI-Driven Maintenance: By using Vision AI to scan release notes, the team can now determine UI changes instantly, allowing them to update test cases before the new Oracle release impacts the system.
